SUM HOSPITAL CHOSEN AS COVID TESTING FACILITY

Bhubaneswar, May 12: One more feather was added to the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here as it has been chosen as the latest Covid-19 testing facility in Odisha.

The 1000-bed teaching hospital, the faculty of medicine of the SOA Deemed to be University, is the first private medical college in the state to be chosen as a testing centre for Coronavirus, its Medical Superintendent, Dr. Pusparaj Samantasinhar, said.

The approval for the purpose had been received from the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), he said.

The tests would be conducted in the Molecular RNA Virology Laboratory of the institute, he said.

To start with, the lab can conduct 300 tests per day, Dr. Jaishankar Das, Director, Research, IMS and SUM Hospital, said.

Dr. Das said the hospital had received NABL approval for the Molecular RNA Virology Laboratory earlier this month.

IMS and SUM Hospital had hogged the limelight earlier by becoming the first hospital in Odisha to conduct live donor liver transplantation and Bone Marrow Transplantation successfully.
