{"id":1135,"date":"2020-09-18T11:10:36","date_gmt":"2020-09-18T11:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?p=1135"},"modified":"2020-09-18T11:10:38","modified_gmt":"2020-09-18T11:10:38","slug":"soa-chosen-for-top-aicte-instituted-national-award-for-role-in-combating-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?p=1135","title":{"rendered":"SOA CHOSEN FOR TOP AICTE INSTITUTED NATIONAL AWARD FOR ROLE IN COMBATING COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Siksha\n\u2018O\u2019 Anusandhan Deemed to be University here was on Thursday picked as the best\ninstitution of higher education in the country to be conferred with the\n\u2018Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award\u2019 instituted by the All India Council for\nTechnical Education (AICTE) for creating awareness about the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Certificates\nwere presented to different institutions in 12 different categories for their\nrole in combating Covid-19 in a virtual ceremony held in New Delhi which was\ngraced, among others, by union minister for education, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal\n\u2018Nishank\u2019 and AICTE Chairman Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mr.\nPokhriyal congratulated the institutions chosen for the awards in different\ncategories praising their role in combating the pandemic. \u201cWhen the going gets\ntough, the tough get going,\u201d he said adding \u201cwe can contribute when we are\nsensitive to the needs of the society.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; SOA\nhad conducted extensive awareness programs involving its different faculties,\ndoctors and students to educate the people about the pandemic and methods to ward\noff the infection in different parts of Bhubaneswar city and its neighbouring\nvillages. Focus was laid on making the people aware about \u2018hand wash\u2019\ntechniques, wearing of masks, &nbsp;practicing\nsocial distancing and learning activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The\nactivities undertaken by SOA included visual discourse, in-house training,\nposter display and audio-visual shows. Training programs on infection control\npractices for healthcare professionals were also held at the Institute of\nMedical Sciences and SUM Hospital, SOA\u2019s faculty of medical sciences. Large\nscale manufacturing of masks, faceshields, PPEs and sanitisers was also undertaken\nby the university. Dry and cooked food, medicines and other essentials were\ndistributed free in the neighbourhood of the campuses during the lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"864\" height=\"373\" src=\"http:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200406_154220.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"1137\" data-link=\"http:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?attachment_id=1137\" class=\"wp-image-1137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200406_154220.jpg 864w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200406_154220-300x130.jpg 300w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/20200406_154220-768x332.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 864px) 100vw, 864px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The\nuniversity\u2019s NSS wing, which was actively involved in creating awareness, also\nconducted a series of training programs while the SOA Community Radio and\nStudent Clubs joined the battle with similar programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 SOA, which was ranked 20<sup>th<\/sup> among universities in the country by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Education, this year also hugely contributed to the efforts of the Odisha government in battling the deadly virus by running four dedicated Covid Hospitals with a total bed strength of over 1400 and two Covid Care Centres having 800 beds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A standalone Covid Hospital with 725 beds (including ICU and High Dependence Unit beds), the largest in the state, is being run by SOA at Bhubaneswar while it was operating three other hospitals at Chandpur (366 beds), Kendrapara (170 beds) and Talcher (150 beds). The Covid Care Centres (CCC) run by SOA are functioning at Jamujhari (500 beds) and Jatni (300 beds). All the hospitals are fully equipped to deal with the disease including ventilators.
