Bhubaneswar, Aug. 24: The talk about disappearing jobs is a myth as more opportunities are on the anvil due to rapidly advancing technology, but the question of employability persists requiring a skill revolution, HR Professionals representing leading brands opined on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cEverything is driven by technology today\nand it would be incorrect to assume that employability was getting reduced\nbecause of innovation. It\u2019s the skill you have acquired which decides whether\nyou can be employed,\u201d Mr. Gourav Saini, Director (HR) of HMD Global, the\nFinnish company that makes Nokia phones, said while addressing the two-day\nsecond HR Conclave which began at the SOA Deemed to be University here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            SOA and the Global Work Force\nManagement (GWFM) have jointly organized the conclave being attended by\nindustry experts and academic leaders. GWFM is a non-profit professional\norganization with the mandate to share best practices and strategies to address\nchallenges facing the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Mr. Saini, who was delivering the\nstrategic keynote address, said students who were graduating from an\nengineering college should realize that the B.Tech degree provided them the\neligibility for the job but they must possess the requisite skill to qualify\nfor the position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cThere is a distinct difference\nbetween eligibility and skill,\u201d he told the students attending the conference\nadding \u201cskill shortage is a reality and learnability will define your future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

             Mr. Sandeep Tyagi, Director (HR) of Samsung\nElectronics, said it was estimated that 75 million current jobs would disappear\nby 2022 but 133 million technology driven new jobs would occupy the space for\nwhich skilled personnel would be needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are in the age of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of\nThings, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Robotics,\u201d he said adding more than\n60 per cent of stock market trading today was done through algorithm which was\nprogrammed through Artificial Intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robots are also poised to take up a lot of jobs while some\nrestaurants have already started using them, he said while delivering his\nlecture on the \u201cFuture of Work\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Inaugurating the conclave, SOA\nVice-Chancellor, Prof. Amit Banerjee said the concept of HR had undergone a\nparadigm shift requiring improved training of employees to keep pace with\ntechnology transformation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cTechnology had opened up new vistas\nand the bottom line is that if you don\u2019t have the skill, you\u2019ll face\ndifficulty,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Prof. P.K.Nanda, SOA\u2019s Dean\n(Research and Development), GWFM\u2019s Founder Mr. Shiva Kumar, Co-Founder Mr.\nPartho Ganguly, and SOA\u2019s Dean (Students\u2019 Welfare) Mr. Jyoti Ranjan Das also\nspoke. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
