D.P.RAY PASSES AWAY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Prof. Debi Prasad Ray, Chancellor of the Siksha \u2018O\u2019\nAnusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University, passed away here on Saturday after a\nbrief illness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Ray, 73, was ailing for some\ntime and was under treatment at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM\nHospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Ray, who served as\nVice-Chancellor of Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT),\nBhubaneswar, for two terms, was associated with SOA for a long time and was the\nPrincipal Advisor to the SOA Founder President, Prof. Manojranjan Nayak before\ntaking over as Chancellor of the university on March 1, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Nayak visited IMS and SUM\nHospital after being informed about Prof. Ray\u2019s demise and paid his last\nrespects to the departed soul. \u201cProf. Ray was a noble soul and had greatly\ncontributed to SOA\u2019s growth,\u201d he said in a condolence message. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SOA Vice-Chancellor Prof. P.K. Nanda\nsaid Prof. Ray was regarded as a father figure and a guide and his passing away\nwas a huge loss for the university. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"692\" src=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Prof.-D.P-Ray-1024x692.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"1861\" data-link=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?attachment_id=1861\" class=\"wp-image-1861\" srcset=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Prof.-D.P-Ray-1024x692.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Prof.-D.P-Ray-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Prof.-D.P-Ray-768x519.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Ray pioneered the establishment\nof the Institute of Agricultural Sciences under SOA which became the first such\ninstitute to be set up in the private domain in the entire eastern and\nnorth-eastern region. He subsequently helped in setting up of the Institute of\nVeterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry under SOA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born on August 15, 1949, Prof. Ray\ncompleted his B.Sc. (Agriculture) from OUAT in 1971 and did his M.Sc (Agriculture)\nfrom Calcutta University. He secured his Ph.D from the same university in 1981.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After serving as Assistant Professor,\nHorticulture, in Calcutta University he worked as Associate Professor at OUAT. He\nhandled several responsibilities including Associate Director (Research),\nProfessor and Head of Department, Horticulture, Dean of Extension Education and\nRegistrar in the same university before being appointed as Vice-Chancellor of\nOUAT in 2006. He continued in office till 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. (Dr.) Ray\u2019s research areas\nincluded enhancement of fruit and plantation crops, orchard efficiency\nmanagement, varietal and nutritional improvement, water management, propagation\ntechniques, post harvest management of tropical and sub-tropical fruits and\nimprovement of vegetables. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Having guided more than fifty post-graduate and Ph.D students, he had more than 200 scientific papers published in journals of national and international repute.  \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. (Dr.) Ray served as chairman of several national committees of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Planning Commission of Government of India. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Debi Prasad Ray, Chancellor of the Siksha \u2018O\u2019 Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University, passed away here on Saturday after a brief illness.
