{"id":1883,"date":"2023-07-12T12:28:23","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T12:28:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?p=1883"},"modified":"2023-07-12T12:28:24","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T12:28:24","slug":"mans-best-friend-also-endures-cardiac-attacks-suffers-silently","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?p=1883","title":{"rendered":"MAN\u2019S BEST FRIEND ALSO ENDURES CARDIAC ATTACKS, SUFFERS SILENTLY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Often termed as man\u2019s most faithful friend, dogs do experience cardiac attacks but suffer silently as they don\u2019t talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Though most\npeople have dogs as pets, they remain unaware about the&nbsp; animal\u2019s heart disease which could be either\ncongenital or acquired, experts attending the two-day national symposium on\ncanine cardiology at the Siksha \u2018O\u2019 Anusandhan Deemed to be University here,\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cIt is\nobserved that cardiac disease is common in dogs whose life span ranges between\n12 to 15 years. The cardiac issues often set in when the animal is barely five\nto six years of age,\u201d Prof. (Dr.) Bramhadev Pattnaik, Dean of the SOA-run\nInstitute of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (IVSAH), said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; What is required\nis timely diagnosis as pet owners need to observe whether the dog is showing\nsigns of fatigue, unable to walk properly, refusing food or not responding to\nthe owner\u2019s commands, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Since it is\ndifficult to know whether the dog is having cardiac problems, it is required to\nget the animal go through regular cardiac health check-up, Prof. (Dr.) Pattnaik\nsaid adding new diagnostic techniques could be used to identify the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"429\" src=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/CARDIAC-1024x429.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"1886\" data-link=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?attachment_id=1886\" class=\"wp-image-1886\" srcset=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/CARDIAC-1024x429.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/CARDIAC-300x126.jpg 300w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/CARDIAC-768x322.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cEven dogs\nare having pacemakers these days,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dr.\nY.Vijay, Director, state government\u2019s Department of Animal Husbandry and\nVeterinary Sciences, said there was need for raising awareness about the\nsubject and the owners had to understand the pet\u2019s symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Prof. (Dr.)\nPradipta Kumar Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of SOA, who presided over the inaugural\nceremony, said the university was encouraging such symposiums and would promote\nresearch on canine health. This symposium would greatly help in enabling vets\nto enhance their knowledge, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The program\nwas also addressed by Prof. (Dr.) Sanghamitra Mishra, Dean of the Institute of\nMedical Sciences and SUM Hospital, Prof. (Dr.) Sushanta Kumar Das, Associate\nDean, IVSAH and Prof. (Dr.) Srinibas Das, Director, Veterinary Clinical Complex,\nIVSAH, and Organising Secretary of the symposium.
