{"id":331,"date":"2019-11-17T10:27:35","date_gmt":"2019-11-17T10:27:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?p=331"},"modified":"2019-11-17T10:27:39","modified_gmt":"2019-11-17T10:27:39","slug":"visionary-scicentist-vikram-sarabhai-and-isro-has-revolutionalized-life-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?p=331","title":{"rendered":"VISIONARY SCICENTIST VIKRAM SARABHAI AND ISRO HAS REVOLUTIONALIZED LIFE IN INDIA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When you ponder\nthe penetration of satellite TV to virtually every home or the early warning\nsounded by the meteorological authorities of an impending cyclone about to hit\nthe coast, think of ISRO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; When expanded, it reads Indian Space\nResearch Organisation which has revolutionized life in India influencing it\nevery day though most people barely have much idea about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ISRO scientists, who are mostly associated with orbiting\nsatellites and launching of giant rockets, have even developed a device in\ntheir spare time which is being described as a step towards designing of an\n\u2018artificial human heart\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The achievements of ISRO have been\nshowcased at a four-day program organised at the SOA Deemed to be University\nhere from Sunday as part of the Birth Centenary Celebration of late Vikram Ambalal\nSarabhai who is considered to be the Father of the Indian Space Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/DSC_4916-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"333\" data-link=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?attachment_id=333\" class=\"wp-image-333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/DSC_4916-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/DSC_4916-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/DSC_4916-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The four-day program, jointly\norganised by SOA and Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, ISRO, Sriharikota, is\npart of the celebrations being held in 100 cities in the country to pay tribute\nto the visionary scientist while popularizing space science among school and\ncollege students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Prof. Debaprosad Duari, a\ndistinguished scientist in the domain of astronomy and astrophysics and\npresently Director of the M.P.Birla Planetarium, Kolkata, attended the program\nas chief guest which was also addressed by Mr. A.Rajarajan, Director of Satish\nDhawan Space Centre, SHAR, ISRO, Mr. V.Kumbakarnan, Chairman of the Vikram\nSarabhai Centenary Celebration Program (VSCP) and Mr. Ajit Kumar Nath, Chairman\nof the Organising Committee, Bhubaneswar. Prof. Amit Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor\nof SOA, presided over the function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; School and college students, who\nattended the inaugural program, were told about the brilliant scientist who\nsuccessfully convinced the government about the importance of launching a space\nprogram in the early 1960s following the Sputnik launch by then USSR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/DSC_4956-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"334\" data-link=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/?attachment_id=334\" class=\"wp-image-334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/DSC_4956-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/DSC_4956-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/utkalaage.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/DSC_4956-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After laying the foundation of the\nspace program, Prof. Sarabhai identified Thumba near Thiruvananthapuram on the\nArabian Sea coast as the site for a rocket launching centre because of its\nproximity to the equator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Prof. Duari described Prof. Sarabhai\nas a visionary scientist and community leader who was focused on building a new\nIndia and had provided the impetus which has helped space science to develop at\na tremendous speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cI hear from NASA scientists that what\nIndia has achieved scientifically in 70 years cannot be matched by any other\ncountry,\u201d Prof. Duari said adding India had taken a quantum jump in space\nexploration within the last one decade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cIf this has to continue, some of you\nhave to shoulder the responsibility,\u201d he told the students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Stating that their academic\nperformance valued through examinations were not the measurement of their real\nworth, he told the audience \u201cyou have to realize your potential before you can\nachieve something.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Prof. Duari focused on the need to\ndevelop scientific temper in the country saying many people were not happy\nabout Rs. 460 crore being spent on the \u2018Mangalyaan\u2019 project and questioned its\nnecessity for India on the ground that 27 per cent of the population had no\nfood. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; But\nthey don\u2019t feel any remorse that much more was being spent every year on the\nIndian Premier League, he commented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mr. Rajarajan said ISRO had taken rapid\nstrides in development of space program while its brilliant scientists were\ninstrumental in saving lives before cyclones hit the coast as the satellites\nprovided all information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Prof. Banerjee described Prof.\nSarabhai as a scientist whose vision had helped the country to reach great\nheights in space development. He was an institution builder and was\ninstrumental in the establishment several great institutions including Physical\nResearch Laboratory (PRL), Darpan Academy of Performing Arts, all at Ahmedabad\nand the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre at Thiruvananthapuram.\n\nThe four-day program includes elocution and\ndebates, essay writing, drawing and painting, instant and written quiz and\ninnovative design competition. The topic for elocution and debates for\nengineering and diploma students will be \u2018Space Explorations can Make India\nDeveloped\u2019 while the topic for students of Class eight to ten will be \u2018Space\nConnects the World\u2019.
