AGRICULTURE CRUCIAL FOR EMPLOYMENT, REVERSE MIGRATION: KV SINGH DEO

Agriculture alone can provide engagement to the people and make reverse migration possible said Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. Mr. Singh Deo, who holds the Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment portfolio besides Energy also stressed that it is time to think alternative agriculture keeping in mind the growing scarcity of water.

Singh Deo graced the occasion as the chief guest addressed the three-day international conference on Sustainable Agricultural Development with Climate Smart Systems’ at SOA University. “While use of technology is needed to increase agriculture production. It is also essential to look at the use of chemical fertlisers that affect productivity of soil,” said the deputy CM.

Referring to the thermal power plants operating in the state, he said the energy generated used fossil fuel which polluted the environment while overburden from coal mines filled up farm lands. The government had planned to implement the Surya Ghar scheme of the central government under which farmers would be supplied 300 units of electricity free of cost, Mr. Singh Deo said.
